Jim Harkin
Jim Harkin is Professor of Computer Engineering at Ulster University, with research interests in AI hardware acceleration, reliable electronic systems and AI healthcare systems. He is a member of the Computational Neuroscience and Neuromorphic Engineering team within Ulster’s Intelligent Systems Research Centre. He leads research on the design of intelligent embedded systems and focuses on developing electronic computing systems that can self-repair under the presence of errors. His work explores how computer models of neural networks (brain like-repair) can be mapped to hardware to build highly efficient and reliable embedded computers. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3, 9 and 11. He is a member of the IEEE CASS Neural Systems and Applications Technical Committee and Sensory Systems Technical Committee. He is co-founder and CTO of the AI healthcare start-up company Respiratory Analytics (https://afloanalytics.com/).
