eFutures study in support of the UK's National Semiconductor Strategy
Between September 2023 and November 2025, eFutures is conducting a study of UK academic research in semiconductors. This study was funded by UKRIwith the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation & Technology as the major stakeholder.
What are Semiconductors?
Semiconductors are critical hardware components, used in a hugely wide range of industries including automotive and communications (including computers, mobile phones, and home appliances).
A glossary of semiconductor terms, compiled by Tokyo Electron, can be found here.
The Project
The project will research the national landscape of semiconductor R&D, and benchmark this R&D internationally. It will also undertake horizon scanning and deliver a series of strategic recommendations.
The project aims to better understand the UK’s current capability in semiconductors, and to establish a roadmap for domestic activity, which also enables future international collaborations.
Throughout the project we aim to forge united UK semiconductor community.
These activities are undertaken by a core project team and driven by an Advisory Group formed from universities across the UK.
Events
Events and ways to participate in the Semiconductor Project will be posted on here. If you would like to be kept informed, please sign up for our eFutures’ mailing list by contacting Sean Morrison (eFutures Project Coordinator) via sean.morrison@qub.ac.uk.
